A Study of Revelation · Lesson 10
Laodicea & Summary of the Churches
The message is not primarily directed to pagan unbelievers outside the church, but to a church that had allowed prosperity, comfort, and self-confidence to replace spiritual vitality. In its self-sufficiency, the church no longer depended upon God and had come to believe it had no need of Him.
"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. "
— Revelation 3:15 (KJV)
"Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:"
— Revelation 3:17 (KJV)
- “Thou art neither cold nor hot.”
- “Thou art…poor, and blind, and naked.”
- “Buy of me gold tried in the fire.”
- “Receive true riches, white raiment, and spiritual sight.”
- “I stand at the door, and knock.”
